KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) – The Land Administration and Management Programme (LAMP) is encouraging clients to capitalise on the J$90-million grant funding that will assist them in completing the process to acquire their titles.

The money is being facilitated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Development Bank of Jamaica.

This was disclosed by Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, Robert Pickersgill during the launch of a policy framework and procedures manual for the divestment of Government owned lands at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston yesterday.

“Persons who have begun the process of obtaining their titles and have stopped because they have been unable to pay, or their title is ready and they are unable to collect may benefit from the grant,” he said.

Pickersgill said the grant funding is available to LAMP clients in St Catherine, St Elizabeth, Manchester, and Clarendon and encouraged persons in those parishes to visit the LAMP locations across the island.

The Land Administration and Management Programme (LAMP) is a Government initiative to help all owners of land in Jamaica to obtain Certificates of Title for their land and to update the information on existing Land Titles.

Turning to the policy framework and procedures manual for the divestment of Government owned lands, Minister Pickersgill said it encapsulates a comprehensive and standard approach to privatization of government owned lands that is expected to yield optimum benefits to the nation.

He said the divestment manual provides a guide to all public sector entities which may want to establish their own committees to deliberate on their divestment processes and make recommendations to guide final decisions. Divestment refers to both the sale and lease of lands.
